Chimes of Life
H: 16.5" | W: 10" | D: 1.5"

Materials: Waxed linen, wood pestle, wood dowel

This hanging piece is twined waxed linen over Japanese wood pestles. Chimes have different significance around the world and their purpose has evolved over the centuries. Each pipe in this chime represents the different chapters of life. Each chapter is a combination of distinct experiences and memorable moments. When I reflect on significant times in my life, I think about the diverse experiences and special moments that have shaped who I am today.

My exploration in basketry began over 25 years ago while living in Virginia and attending college. I believe in lifelong learning, so experimenting with different materials and learning new techniques whether it is in a workshop or on my own, energizes me. My days are usually hectic and stressful with work and other obligations, so twining with waxed linen is often where I express creativity and find peace. Many of my baskets are made when traveling which means they typically are no larger than 3 inches in any direction. Small enough to fit in a bag and go anywhere.
