Gather Here

In 2019 I attended the NBO Conference in my home state of Kentucky. After taking the white oak basket class taught by Bill and Mary K. Smith I had the knowledge needed to make this basket. The white oak was taken and split on my Ohio County farm. The rim is heartwood and the basket is a combination of heartwood and sapwood with a few imperfections for interest. The leather strap is cowhide with mahogany leather dye. This little gathering basket was a labor of love.

Artist Statement:
Inspired by a passion for making lanyards and potholders in the early years, I began my basketmaking career in 2002. Working closely with friend and mentor Liz Ashby, I continue to hone my artistic craft as a member of Woven Together in Western Kentucky basket guild and the National Basket Organization. I regularly attend basket classes and seminars. Using a combination of commercial reed, white oak, waxed linen, willow and natural materials, I produce a variety of baskets that highlight a love of both texture and color.
