This piece, twined with waxed linen, includes five separate apples, each unique with its own size, color, lumps and bumps: much like nature. Nothing is perfect in nature. During the racial upheaval created by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, (a place that I had called home for 23 years,) I couldn’t help but think about the often used phrase, “one bad apple.” I am hopeful that this period of social strife has and will create change for the betterment of all.

During the period of confinement and introspection during Covid, I found myself using my art to tell the stories of our time. Observations of nature, lessons from social strife, and moments of simple daily living all made it to my studio table.
