My basket explorations started during the COVID 19 lockdown period. I had some rope and decided to use it to knit a small vessel. It was a process of discovery. How the material impacted the shape and form of the piece was intriguing to me. Historically, I've made large-scale, hand-knitted, commissioned pieces that are used in the context of blankets or throws. The first baskets, or vessels, were a departure from those pieces in scale, materials, technique and form. I continue to knit vessels using a variety of materials, some with the addition of knotting and weaving. These are objects of curiosity. Soft sculptures.
