What would happen if Yayoi Kusama visited a stilt house owned by the fanciful Dr. Seuss? She’d want to put dots all over it. I had the pleasure to visit the artist’s Infinity Room at the Tampa Museum of Art and was inspired by round circles. I turned the “what if” to “what did” in my imagination into this sculpture.

Artist Statement:
I’ve been weaving traditional baskets for more than 20 years and have experimented the last several using non-conventional materials. I’m exploring how to continue a basketry craft heritage based on tradition that is contemporary and unlike what is expected. I had a vision that discards could become art and would prove it by doing. A trip to India reinforced this idea. This environmental voice came to be my reason and inspiration for creating.
Non-conventional weaving materials (expired business rack cards and invitations, plastic bottle caps, plastic newspaper bags) are my supplies, an infinite source of art materials that could tell a story in itself.
A former storyteller by trade (journalist), it all made sense.
